Mandela Day at Mamthembu’s Home: A Morning of Purpose and Connection

This Mandela Day we had the honour of visiting Mamthembu’s Home in Alexandra, where she is caring for children in her community with special needs. What began as a morning of giving quickly became a powerful reminder of why community, empathy, and ongoing support matter more than ever.

Through our connection with Empower Her Future winner Nomsa, who calls Alexandra home, this neighbourhood holds special meaning for our team. Nomsa has played an instrumental role in ensuring that Alexandra receives both recognition and support. Her work has inspired us to extend our efforts in real and sustainable ways.

Our morning at Mamthembu’s Home included a handover of essential donated items, but more importantly, time spent with the children themselves. From games to shared laughter and small creative activities, our team members were reminded that presence is often the most valuable gift you can offer. In every moment, we saw resilience, joy, and the impact of being seen and supported.

At Take Note, we believe that giving back shouldn’t begin and end on Mandela Day. Our commitment to communities like Alexandra goes far beyond the symbolic 67 minutes. We are in the process of rolling out several long-term initiatives aimed at creating meaningful and lasting impact.

We’re sharing this story not to spotlight our company, but to encourage other organizations to think about what more they can do. Community support shouldn’t be a once-a-year performance, it should be a year-round priority. We may not be able to change everything all at once, but small, consistent actions create ripple effects that matter.

If you would like to contribute or get involved in our upcoming initiatives, we’d love to hear from you. Please email us at marketing@takenoteit.co.za

Let’s honour Mandela’s legacy not just in minutes, but in our everyday actions.
